The small coastal town of Caleta, in the north west of Lanzarote, consists essentially of the main street and some side streets that lead down to the water. The inhabitants live mainly from fishing. There are also some simple but very good restaurants, these are visited over all during weekends.
The Playa de Famara, which runs along the east side of La Caleta, below Risco de Famara, is one of the most beautiful beaches of Lanzarote. Unfortunately, there is usually a bothersome wind, treacherous currents make the water always dangerous as well, so the bathing experience is rather limited. But the surfers, kit surfer and wind surfers are enjoying these strong winds.
